Kuala Lumpur, 14 August 2020–The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) held its 11th AIPA Caucus with the House of Representatives, Congress of the Republic of the Philippines acted as the host and was participated remotely by other AIPA Member Countries.

The caucus was held in virtual amid the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic under the theme “We Heal as One: Parliamentary Cooperation Towards Mitigating Risk and Strengthening Economic Resilience in the Period of Pandemic”. The caucus was opened by H.E. Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Congress of the Republic of the Philippines and followed by the presentation of country reports on the status of implementation of the 40th AIPA General Assembly resolutions.

The topic “Mitigating Risks and Strengthening Economic Resilience in the Period of Pandemic” was discussed by delegates in the working group session after a presentation by Dr. Aladdin D. Rillo from ASEAN Secretariat. Further discussion on national initiatives and possible areas for common legislation was put forward afterward. Hon. Dato Sri Hajah Rohani Abdul Karim, MP for Batang Lupar and Hon. Maria Chin Abdullah, MP for Petaling Jaya represented Parliament of Malaysia. Parliamentary research officers involved were Asri Adnan, Amy Tam Lay Choon and Muthanna Saari.
