CLOSED REGIONAL WEBINAR FOR AIPA STAFF

AIPA: ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and Freeland with the support of WildAid organised a virtual briefing session (Webinar) on Wildlife Trade and Links with Covid-19 and Other Zoonotic Outbreaks. The Freeland Foundation is a counter-trafficking organisation that has signed a MoU for cooperation in 2007 and was renewed in 2016 (Res.37GA/2016/Org/01).
The Webinar is designed to provide briefing for parliamentary staff working in committee (s) related to law enforcement, environment, and public health. Mr. Pandu Dewono, Deputy Secretary General of AIPA was a moderator for the two (2) hours 30 minutes session. Welcome remarks by Mrs. Nguyen Tuong Van, Secretary General of AIPA followed by presentations from Mr. Steven Glaster (Chair, Executive Director of FREELAND) on “ASEAN and the Wildlife Trade”), Sallie Yang (Legal Specialist for the USAID Wildlife Asia Activity) on “ASEAN Laws Available to Stop Wildlife Trafficking”, Ms.Hong Hoang (WildAid representative) on “Key ASEAN Influencers on Wildlife Trade and Nature Protection” and Mr.Yoganand Kandasamy (WWF) on “Engaging public support”.
Several countries from AIPA Member States have participated and two representatives from the Research Division, Parliament Malaysia are Mrs. Siti Mastura Oyop and Muthanna Saari have attended the session.
